Finding Your Why!
I first found Simon Sinek through his Ted Talk How great leaders inspire action. I was working in a retail store and looking for inspiring training ideas for my staff but it appealed to me in a much greater way. Earlier in the year, I had chosen to start my own craft business Maisielu (named after my children) it was a big jump from hobby crafter to business person but I loved the challenge. I kept my day job and worked evenings and weekends to learn and build my business up, Simons Ted Talk came to me as I researched into sales techniques, USPs, and why people buy from you!
However, it was this quote that grabbed my attention: People don't buy what you do; they buy why you do it, and what you do simply serves as the proof of what you believe.
Those words really made me think about my why when I first started out in business, my why at the time was to share my skills, make people happy and show my children that you could build something for yourself. Years later when I changed my business and focused on social media management, I was pleased to reflect that my why was the same, even though the business was very different.
Knowing your own why will help drive your business forward, and when you delve into your why it may not be the initial reason you thought you started or told people you started in business. By setting out your why you are stating your purpose and goal, clearly setting it out and creating a focus around its achievement.
